The 2012 growing season was about as good as you could ask for. In fact it was a record producing year of 188,000 tons for Washington. Coming off the back of two cold vintages in 2011 and 2010, it seemed almost perfect. The steady warm temperatures and three month stint without any rain allowed the grapes to ripen at the ideal pace. Grapes could be brought in in an intentional manner with red grapes achieving higher alcohols but ripeness and nice acidity to balance out. White wines from 2012 are richer than the brighter, lower alcohol whites of the past two vintages. The 2012 vintage allowed for more quantity with quality.
